History of the Otago Sharp Suitors

The Otago Sharp Suitors was established officially in 2005, where they made their first appearance as a
team in the 2005 South Island Chinese September Tournament in Dunedin. Their emphatic entrance and appearance wooed
the crowd as they first entered the stadium for their first game of the tournament. The Otago Sharp Suitors led out by
their captain Mr Patrick 'Starr' Truong looked Sharp in their Suits as they came out in style to the sounds of 'Eye of the
Tiger' pumping through their boom box. With the Otago Sharp Suitors flag in hand, the crowd knew from the first steps
that this now famous team, Otago Sharp Suitors were here to play, and what a memorable year they had.

In the News

With the arrival of 2006, the Otago Sharp Suitors are slowly getting back into things, practices have started
and the Otago Sharp Suitors are looking a bit rusty. As weeks progress we should see the Old Otago Sharp Suitors back
to their best, but with players leaving to higher grades, the Otago Sharp Suitors are unaware of what the team will look like,
will the Otago Sharp Suitors survive, or will the Otago Sharp Suitors go down as the one off victorious team of all time.
Practices are underway for the 2006 season and the build up to the Wellington Easter Tournament.
Week 1 delivered a small turn out but with the Universtiy students on their way, week 2 should bring along many old and fresh
faces to the Otago teams.

September Tournament 2005 - Dunedin

The Otago Sharp Suitors were able to cruise pass Canterbury B with flying colours,
rubbing the salt and msg into their wounds as they blocked them like a mofo out of the stadium and all the way back to Christchurch...
some even back to China (unfortunatly Geoff was also blocked all the way to china aswell). However Canterbury A brought
out the best of the two sides, with a fierce competition in the 2 games. With a dissapointing first game lost by 3 points
the Otago Sharp Suitors were left shattered and heart-broken. Jason Wong had a career low of 0 points and 5 personal
fouls in 5min. With game 1 gone and needing to win by 4 points or better to win the High School Cup and also the overall
cup on the line, Otago Sharp Suitors had come to play.

The Otago Sharp Suitors failed to start well once again, seeing themselves down by a large amount early
in the first quarter (The night before may have affected this with the Otago Sharp Suitors learning to gameble and Michael
Lee's incident seeing his BMW driven into a ditch). However Geoff Lee was able to penetrate inside and kept the Otago
Sharp Suitors and Otago in the game. The middle stages of the game saw a beautiful team performance by the Otago
Sharp Suitors, the strong bonds between players allowed the players to communicate and succeed in every aspect of the game.
The OSS put in 100% and delivered devine crisp passes, superman dives and crunching defence.

The game was closing into a tight game and with the experience of Conrad Wong, he was able to 'Con-trol'
the game and hit his long shots when we needed it most. The highly intensly concentrated brain of Coach Andy, was able
to work his magical time-out to run out a crucial 30sec of the game. With the Otago Sharp Suitors up by 6 points and
the final buzzer ringing. The Sharp Suitors had made history and had won back the cup which was getting melested by Canterbury
over the previous years.
